Be A Learner Not A Loser….

When I think of people in power, I think of senators and congressmen who have “Arrived”. They have spent their whole life reaching for the goal of one day being in office. Being in Power…

Once this position has been reached often it would seem, they switch, no longer is there the unknown that drives them but rather the drive becomes a position of maintaining…. J.O.B. Protection…

I don’t claim to know much about politics and to be honest this really isn’t about politics… Its about LeaRNership…

Because as I was processing ideas above, I wondered this question….

I wonder if the congressmen and women and government leaders, even the president… I wonder what if anything they do to brush up on their LEADERSHIP Skills…

After all they are the ones God has placed in Leadership over us…
We go where they lead…

How does this apply to all of us…. First acknowledge: We all lead somebody…
Have you arrived? I believe “Arriving” is more of a mind game than positional.
How are you LEARNING as you are LEADING….

This is huge because I have heard it said and I believe… If you are a leader and not a learner you will become a loser… We lose leadership when we failed to learn…

Everyone was thinking it, Nobody said anything… Hopefully you will listen…

MIDDLE SCHOOLERS: These pictures floating around saying SHARE if you love Jesus… If three of the four pictures do not represent Jesus (examples: porn, Satan, insert inappropriate image)

In no way does the sharing of these photos show you love Jesus…
We don’t prove our love for Jesus through the sharing of a Facebook photo anyways…

PLEASE WATCH WHAT YOU SHARE…. Read Philippians 4:8 before you shareANYTHING if you need a filter….

Better than not sharing, it would serve you well just un-friend those picture sites, and don’t waste time looking at those things…

Oh yeah and… “Shut up and Kiss me” – That phrase is said by NO happily married couple EVER…

What my 3 yr. Old got RIGHT and I got WRONG… A Lesson in Perspective

Wednesdays are Daddy days.
These days are days where I spend the day with my children while my wife is at work.

Today the kids and I started the morning by running to our yard outside our apartment.
We went to Tim Hortons for our Daddy Date #164 🙂
Then we went to the park in the village.
It was a beautiful day. Blue skies, no wind and the greenest spring grass!

As we were leaving Joel grabbed a dandelion off the ground.
It was beat up and nasty. It had been stepped on and was just rotting on the play ground stones.
Despite how beat up this dandelion was it was still unmistakeable with the yellow tint, a dandelion.
I told Joel “Put that down, it’s garbage.”
He obeyed and put it down…

Almost 10 seconds later as we are moving closer to the car, Joel picked a new dandelion.
This time I acknowledged his new dandelion but again I told him to put it down.
I did this because dandelions in my mind have always been weeds…
Weeds are not beautiful, they are weeds…

As we were driving back to our house Joel looked out his window and with MUCH excitement yelled out to me… DAD! DANDELIONS!!!!
He was pumped!!!

As excited as he was I told him the view I have always taken towards dandelions…
“Joel, dandelions are not beautiful they are Weeds…”

As soon as those words came out of my mouth I realized I was so WRONG…
Dandelions are beautiful, yes they might be weeds and they might cause allergies, but the flower is beautiful… Who am I to tell him that a weed can’t be beautiful… God created it to be beautiful!!!

This epiphany floored me in my view of flowers but also as a student pastor about what God is doing in the lives our students.
I believe often(not always), we (adults) look as students and we say that they are not important like weeds, they are annoying like allegories, or the worst perspective, we look at broken hurting students and we say they are garbage… Worthless weeds… Worthless teens…

We do this because because we forgot what it’s like to be a kid, to see GODS BEAUTY in PEOPLE and THE WORLD…

I read this today and I believe it fits well with my unexpected epiphany this morning:

Matthew 9:9-13
9 As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at his tax collector’s booth. “Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him. So Matthew got up and followed him.

10 Later, Matthew invited Jesus and his disciples to his home as dinner guests, along with many tax collectors and other disreputable sinners. 11 But when the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with such scum?”

12 When Jesus heard this, he said, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do.” 13 Then he added, “Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”

How do you view the dandelions?
They are more than weeds… There is beauty there in that flower
How do you view students?
They are much more than annoying and worthless… There is MUCH beauty and creativity and passion to honor and Follow Jesus…
